COOLKids Tri presented by Norton Children’s Orthopedics of Louisville

Kids will sweat a little this summer at the third annual COOL Kids Tri on Saturday, June 9.

The event is for ages 6-14 and includes a swim, bike and run. Age groups are split between 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14 with event distances varying by age groups. The triathlon begins and ends at Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center.

Each child will receive a T-shirt, finisher medal, official race bib and swim cap, and will have an opportunity to win an award during a postrace celebration. Just like in Olympic and sprint distances, participants will be body marked, wear official chip timers and race a course with professional equipment and a music system.

Description:

From ages 6 to 14 we have a distance for your child. Every athlete gets to race with similarly aged kids at distances tailored for his or her age group.

Safety Info:

Lifeguards will be on duty ensuring a safe and enjoyable pool swim. Reservoir Ave will be completely closed to vehicle traffic and controlled by LMPD officers to allow participants the full and isolated use of the bike course.  The run course will be staffed with volunteers pointing kids in the right direction every step of the way. Hydration stations will also be set up along the run course. EMTs and an EMS will be on site to assist in the event they are needed.

Swim: 50 Meters-Map

Swim up 25 meters and back down 25 meters. Swim starts will be separated 15 seconds between each kid.

Bike: 1.5 Kilometers-Map (1 lap)

Exit the transition area and walk bike to mount line. Mount bike and turn right on Reservoir Ave. Turn around at traffic guard and head back on Reservoir Ave. Turn around at traffic guard and head back to transition area.

Run: 1 Kilometer-Map

Exit Transition area and run behind the finish line. Run on the back of the parking lot to enter the Water Reservoir. Run straight on the Water Reservoir Track. Turn around at the first corner on the Reservoir Track and head back.

Swim: 100 Meters-Map

Swim up 25 meters and back down 25 meters. Snake back up for another 25 meters and down for the final 25 meters. Swim starts will be separated 15 seconds between each kid.

Bike: 3 Kilometers-Map (2 laps)

Exit the transition area and walk bike to mount line. Mount bike and turn right on Reservoir Ave. Turn around at traffic guard and head back on Reservoir Ave. Turn around at traffic guard and head back down Reservoir Ave to opposing traffic guard turn around. Complete 2 laps and finish at Transition Area.

Run: 2 Kilometers-Map

Exit Transition area and run behind the finish line. Run on the back of the parking lot to enter the Water Reservoir. Run straight on the Water Reservoir Track. Complete ONE lap on the Reservoir Track and then come down to the Finish Line.

Swim: 200 Meters-Map

Swim 50 Meters up and 50 meters back down. Snake for another 50 meters up the pool and finish on final lap back down. Swim starts will be separated 15 seconds between each kid.

Bike: 5 Kilometers-Map (3 laps)

Exit the transition area and walk bike to mount line. Mount bike and turn right on Reservoir Ave. Turn around at traffic guard and head back on Reservoir Ave. Turn around at traffic guard and head back down Reservoir Ave to opposing traffic guard turn around. Complete 3 laps and finish at Transition Area.

Run: 3 Kilometers-Map

Exit Transition area and run behind the finish line. Run on the back of the parking lot to enter the Water Reservoir. Run straight on the Water Reservoir Track. Complete TWO Laps on the Reservoir Track and then come down to the Finish Line.

USA Triathlon membership is required to register. Membership fee is $10 and can be added during race registration.
